A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium, where a shooting injured twelve individuals, including several minors. In response, the Tallahassee Police Department arrested a 15-year-old male on Sunday, who now faces multiple charges, including 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder.
Police Chief Lawrence Revell expressed deep concern, stating, “What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence.” He affirmed that the department’s investigation is ongoing, emphasizing a commitment to accountability and support for the victims and their families.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets, coinciding with homecoming festivities that featured a football game. Initial reports indicate that the violence stemmed from a disagreement between individuals who were known to each other, with police stating that none of the victims were likely the intended targets.
Among the injured, one person sustained an ankle injury while attempting to flee the scene. Following the attack, the university urged students and staff to avoid the area, reassuring them that the campus remained safe. The police have hinted at the possibility of further arrests as they continue to gather evidence.
“Our hearts are with the victims and everyone affected by tonight’s incident on Perry Street,” the university stated, reinforcing the community’s call for healing in the aftermath of this traumatic event.
