In a disheartening twist for the Dallas Cowboys, a fourth-quarter lead dissolved into a stunning defeat against the Arizona Cardinals, marking a significant shift in the team’s previously unblemished record when leading by 14 points or more at home. The Cowboys, under the ownership of Jerry Jones, now find themselves grappling with their second unexpected loss this season, leading to rising questions about the coaching stability of Brian Schottenheimer.

After Dak Prescott’s rushing touchdown put Dallas ahead 24-10, the team appeared to be on track for victory. However, the Cardinals capitalized on the Cowboys’ defensive shortcomings, scoring 20 points in the final quarter and ultimately winning 33-30 in overtime. This defeat breaks a historic streak of 69 consecutive home wins for Dallas when they held such a commanding lead.

Owner Jerry Jones, visibly frustrated, indicated that firing Schottenheimer is not currently on his mind, despite the Cowboys’ disappointing 3-5 start. Prescott, acknowledging the team’s collective responsibility, stated, “It’s all of us; don’t put the blame on one person.” This sentiment echoes the frustrations of fans and analysts alike regarding the team’s performance and defensive inconsistency.

Meanwhile, in Baltimore, the Ravens are facing their own crisis as quarterback Lamar Jackson suffers a significant thumb injury that will sideline him for at least four weeks. After returning from a high ankle sprain, Jackson’s first play resulted in the new injury during a loss to the Buffalo Bills, which further complicates the Ravens’ playoff aspirations.

Other teams are also struggling, as evidenced by the Los Angeles Chargers, who fail to find the end zone in their latest 24-9 loss to the Rams. The Chargers have gone an alarming 27 drives without scoring a touchdown, prompting doubts about offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s effectiveness.

In a surprising turn of events, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made history by winning without completing a single pass—an unprecedented feat since 1974. Their 16-0 victory over the Atlanta Falcons underscored the unique challenges of Week 8, with both teams struggling under difficult weather conditions.

Amidst these challenges, the Washington Commanders are finding a glimmer of hope, improving to a 2-4-1 record after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles, who face their worst start in years. This win puts the Commanders in contention for the NFC East, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the division this season.
