In a surprising turn of events, New York Knicks players Tyler Kolek and Miles McBride recently labeled Taylor Swift as the “fakest” celebrity fan during a livestream. This comment sparked a swift response from the Knicks organization, which quickly rallied to defend the pop star’s long-standing connection to the team.
The Knicks, who recently celebrated their NBA championship victory, felt compelled to clarify Swift’s dedication to the franchise. “Taylor Swift has been a Knicks fan for many years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden, and we are incredibly appreciative of her support of the organization,” said a spokesperson for the team.
This situation arose when Kolek and McBride participated in an NBA 2K TikTok livestream, where they were asked about celebrity fans. Kolek’s remark about Swift’s attendance at games raised eyebrows, as he questioned her commitment, suggesting she might not be present often due to her busy schedule. “I guess she’s got a lot going on so she can’t come all the time,” he explained, but this didn’t sit well with many fans.
The backlash was palpable, especially considering Swift’s iconic presence at the Knicks’ Finals games, where she was seen cheering passionately from the sidelines. The singer, who had previously attended a Knicks practice, has shown her support in various ways, including her memorable appearance during Game 4 of the NBA Finals, where she celebrated the team’s stunning comeback.
As the discussion heated up, it became evident that the Knicks and their fans would stand by Swift, emphasizing her authentic connection to the team, despite the players’ initial jokes. Swift’s fandom is not just a passing trend; it reflects a deeper appreciation for the franchise that fans have embraced wholeheartedly.
