The Pentagon has announced plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the Army officer convicted for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, which left 13 people dead and dozens injured. The execution is set for December 3, coinciding with the same day and time of the tragic attack.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed the decision during an interview aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, stating, “Nidal Hasan is going to get a firing squad of soldiers, and we’ll make sure that people are able to watch it.” He emphasized that the public should understand the severe consequences of such actions.

Hasan, a former major and psychiatrist, was sentenced to death in 2013 after being found guilty of premeditated murder. The execution will mark a significant moment, as the last military execution occurred in 1961. Hegseth described the method of execution as a “no-brainer” and stated that it was approved by President Trump.

The Pentagon is currently working on the details of the livestream, including which platform will host the event. Hasan’s execution is expected to follow traditional military procedures, despite the unusual choice of a firing squad, which has not been used since the mid-20th century.

In a reminder of the somber nature of the event, Hegseth noted the importance of accountability for actions that lead to such extreme measures. As the date approaches, questions remain regarding whether Hasan will appeal the method of execution or make any final requests.
