In a troubling incident in Upper Manhattan, a person was shot by ICE officers during an enforcement operation. The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. on Marble Hill Avenue, according to multiple law enforcement sources.
The individual, who was reportedly in a vehicle at the time of the shooting, is expected to survive. A child, said to be five years old, was also in the car but is unharmed. The scene was heavily investigated, with authorities surrounding a black sedan believed to be where the incident took place.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani described the event as “an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation.” He expressed his outrage on social media, demanding the President put an end to ICE enforcement actions in the city. “Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children,” he stated.
Governor Kathy Hochul has also been briefed on the situation and emphasized the need for a transparent report from federal authorities regarding the shooting. She stated that New Yorkers deserve clarity on the incident.
The New York Police Department clarified that they were not involved in the incident and were not present when the shooting occurred. The injured individual is currently receiving medical care at a nearby hospital.
As the investigation continues, both Homeland Security and the FBI are involved in looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which has raised significant concerns about federal enforcement actions in the community.
