A devastating incident has shaken the San Francisco Police Department, as a prominent former officer and her family have been tragically killed in a suspected murder-suicide. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening when retired Sergeant Kevin Mannix, 68, fatally shot his wife, Ann Mannix, 64, a former deputy chief, along with their 24-year-old daughter, Katherine, before taking his own life.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the authorities responded to a 911 call from a person who managed to escape the residence, leading them to the scene. The circumstances surrounding this tragic event remain unclear, with investigators yet to establish a motive. Autopsies for the three victims were scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
The San Francisco Police Officers Association expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating that the incident has left the department reeling. “There are no words that can fully capture the depth of this tragedy,” they remarked, highlighting the profound impact of the loss on the SFPD community.
Kevin Mannix served the police department for 27 years before retiring in 2018, while Ann Mannix was a trailblazer in her own right, becoming the first woman to lead the SWAT team and rising through the ranks to become deputy chief in 2018. Her contributions to the department left a significant mark, and she was widely respected by her peers.
As the investigation unfolds, the community reflects on the profound implications of this tragedy, mourning not just the loss of dedicated officers but also the impact on their family and the broader community they served.
