Ukraine has intensified its military operations against Russian oil refineries following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s public outcry regarding what he termed a “dangerous” withdrawal of U.S. support. This resurgence in strikes comes after a brief three-day hiatus, during which Kyiv observed President Donald Trump’s unilateral announcement of an “energy ceasefire.” Zelenskyy accused Russia of violating the ceasefire by launching attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure.

Frustration has been mounting within Ukraine as President Zelenskyy expressed anger over the perceived decline in American support, particularly the reported restrictions on intelligence sharing and the Starlink internet service, both critical to Ukraine’s defense efforts.

In a recent interview, Zelenskyy emphasized the end of restraint on attacks against Russian facilities, stating, “The block (on attacking refineries) is out. We’re done.” Shortly after, reports emerged of a fire at an oil refinery in Ryazan, which Russian officials attributed to a Ukrainian strike.

The Ukrainian government also voiced concern over the implications of Trump’s energy ceasefire, which not only demanded a halt to operations against Russian oil installations but also suggested a change in leadership in Kyiv. This unexpected shift has created confusion and discontent among Ukraine’s allies, particularly in Europe, regarding the U.S.’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.

Moreover, the situation has been further complicated by issues surrounding the Starlink satellite service, which has seen a slowdown affecting Ukraine’s military capabilities. Zelenskyy highlighted that this slowdown coincided with increased Russian drone attacks, raising questions about the reliability of U.S. military intelligence sharing.

As tensions rise and military engagements escalate, Zelenskyy conveyed a sense of betrayal over the recent changes in U.S. policy, emphasizing the challenges Ukraine faces in the absence of full support from its allies.
