In a notable political maneuver, Vice President JD Vance has chosen not to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a decision made just after President Donald Trump expressed his full support for Netanyahu’s re-election campaign. This statement comes amidst the backdrop of the upcoming Israeli elections.
During an appearance on Mark Halperin’s show “2WAY Tonight,” Vance clarified his stance, stating, “I’m not getting involved in the Israeli elections.” He emphasized that his focus remains on American candidates as the midterm elections loom closer.
“I’m not anti-endorsing him; I’m not pro-endorsing him,” Vance remarked, highlighting his neutral position in the Israeli political landscape.
Trump’s endorsement of Netanyahu was emphatic, declaring on Truth Social, “If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so.” He praised Netanyahu for his leadership amidst significant challenges.
Vance acknowledged Trump’s influence, referring to him as having “the most effective endorsement in American or international political history.” However, Vance reiterated that his current priority is the upcoming elections in the U.S.
Additionally, Vance reflected on his recent trip to Hungary, where he campaigned for Viktor Orbán, the former Prime Minister who was ousted earlier this year. He also hinted at his political future, stating he has not yet decided on a presidential run for 2028, but expressed confidence that Trump would support him if he chooses to enter the race.
