Pope Leo XIV has received encouraging news following his recent lung surgery. According to a statement released by his medical team on Wednesday, the 71-year-old pontiff will not need any further treatment after having undergone a surgery to remove a lung nodule.

The operation took place earlier this month at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome after a routine medical examination revealed a concerning nodule. The doctors confirmed that the nodule was a localized pulmonary adenocarcinoma, meaning the cancer had not spread beyond the initial site.

In a statement, Dr. Luigi Carbone and Prof. Stefano Margaritora disclosed that the results from the surgical analysis were completed, revealing no further therapy is needed. “A subsequent oncological evaluation has confirmed that no further therapy is required,” they noted.

Having been discharged from the hospital last Saturday, Pope Leo was back to his public duties by Sunday, where he addressed the faithful from the window of his apartment at St. Peter’s Basilica. He expressed gratitude towards those who offered their well-wishes during his recovery process.

“This experience has made me feel particularly close to all those who are experiencing illness and a condition of frailty,” he remarked, highlighting the solidarity he feels with the sick.

Looking ahead, the Pope indicated he plans to gradually resume his activities. “Having come through this delicate phase, I will now gradually resume my activities, always with God’s help and your prayers,” he stated, offering a message of hope and resilience to his followers.
