In a significant child abuse and trafficking case, eight individuals from a single household in Kentucky were taken into custody, as revealed by Richmond police on Wednesday. The operation involved seven young victims, whose ages range from just 1 to 17 years old.

The suspects are facing a range of serious charges, including human trafficking, incest, abuse, and rape. Bail amounts for the accused vary, with figures set between $50,000 and $125,000, according to police spokesperson Makenzie Gould.

Scheduled for a court appearance on October 21, the defendants are linked to a collective investigation conducted by local law enforcement, Child Protective Services, and the Department for Community Based Services.

“I’m unsure of the exact family relations between all eight members,” Gould noted in her statement. “All are listed as living at the same residence. All seven children were removed from this same residence.”

The individuals charged include Christine Carter, 41, and Johnna Carter, 21, both facing first-degree criminal abuse charges with bonds set at $50,000. Richard Carter, 45, is charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree rape, and has a bond of $100,000. The youngest defendant, Ishmeal Thornsberry, 21, is also charged with first-degree criminal abuse and has a bond of $50,000.

As of now, it remains unclear whether the defendants have retained legal counsel to represent them in court.
