Kyle Francis Kennedy, the granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy, passed away at the age of 42, following a significant spinal cord injury that led to long-term paralysis and various health complications. Her obituary, released by Burke Funeral Homes, detailed her struggles since the injury occurred in 2020.

Kennedy died peacefully at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts, on September 21. Although the specific cause of death was not disclosed, her family emphasized her impact in early childhood education and her dedication to social reform for children and individuals with disabilities.

Born in Cohasset, Massachusetts, Kyle was a graduate of Georgetown University after attending Milton Academy. She earned two master’s degrees, one in early education from Pace University and another in education policy from Harvard. Her commitment to education was evident as she participated in the Teach for America program, serving in New York City public schools, which launched her career.

Throughout her life, Kennedy was known for her love of family, particularly her three children, Conor, Josephine, and Declan. Her obituary described her as possessing a “formidable intellect, dry wit, and beauty,” and highlighted her efforts to advocate for educational equity and reform.

Despite her circumstances following her injury, Kennedy continued to fight for her cause and maintained her sense of humor. She even testified at the Massachusetts State House regarding healthcare discrimination against people living with disabilities.

She is survived by her two sons, her ex-husband Liam Kerr, her mother Victoria Denise Gifford, and her siblings, Michael LeMoyne Kennedy Jr. and Rory Gifford Kennedy. The legacy of her advocacy for educational reform and her commitment to her family will be remembered by many.
