A chaotic scene erupted near Florida A&M University on Saturday night as gunfire rang out, injuring twelve individuals, including several minors, during homecoming festivities. The shooting occurred in the vicinity of Bragg Memorial Stadium, where a football game was taking place.

According to the Tallahassee Police Department, eleven of the twelve victims sustained gunshot wounds, with three of them reported to have serious injuries. The remaining individuals were stabilized, but the incident has raised serious concerns about safety in the area.

Among the injured, six were reported to be under the age of 18. The police have indicated that a physical altercation may have preceded the shooting, although no arrests have yet been made. The violence unfolded around 8 p.m. at a nearby intersection, prompting immediate responses from law enforcement.

In the wake of the incident, Florida State University, located about a mile away, issued an emergency alert advising students, faculty, and staff to remain indoors as a precaution. Thankfully, it appears that no one from its campus community was involved in the shooting.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell expressed deep condolences to the victims and their families, emphasizing the heartache surrounding the involvement of children in such violence. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities encouraging witnesses to come forward to provide any additional information.

Florida A&M University also released a statement following the shooting, urging its community to stay away from the area while affirming that the campus itself was safe. The university extended its thoughts and prayers to all affected by this tragic event.
