In a provocative statement, former President Donald Trump has called on residents of Minnesota to “fight back” against the state’s Somali immigrant community. This appeal, made via his Truth Social platform, underscores his longstanding criticism of Somalis, particularly targeting them following a series of fraud convictions involving individuals of Somali descent.

Trump’s message emphasized a narrative of urgency, suggesting that the “once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants.” He urged local citizens to resist, claiming, “If you need, the Federal Government will come to your rescue.” This rhetoric aligns with Trump’s previous derogatory remarks about Somali immigrants, which have evolved into a broader criticism of the community.

Throughout his presidency, Trump has frequently criticized Somali immigrants and has made pointed remarks about Rep. Ilhan Omar, who herself is a Somali immigrant. His comments have drawn significant backlash from various groups who argue that such rhetoric fosters division and discrimination.

Despite the controversial nature of his statements, Trump’s influence remains significant among certain voter demographics, particularly in Minnesota where the Somali population is the largest in the U.S. The White House has yet to comment on the specifics of Trump’s recent statements or the implications for the federal government’s involvement.

As tensions rise, the impact of such inflammatory rhetoric on community relations and broader societal dynamics in Minnesota remains to be seen.
