In a surprising twist, President Donald Trump announced on Saturday via Truth Social that he has extended an offer for the White House press secretary position to Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). This comes after Trump’s previous press secretary, Katie Zacharia, left the role after only five days in October.
Trump’s post praised White, describing him as a “violent Fighter and Warrior,” and expressed his hope that White would accept the position. “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!” the president declared.
In addition to the press secretary role, Trump suggested that White should bring several UFC fighters, including Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, and Amanda Nunes, to act as assistants in defending against what he termed the “Lunatic Left.”
The bond between Trump and White is well-known; the two have maintained a friendship over the years, with Trump frequently attending UFC events during his presidency. Earlier this year, White organized a UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House, commemorating the nation’s 250th birthday, which saw participation from various Trump administration officials and Republican lawmakers.
Despite the intriguing nature of Trump’s offer, it remains uncertain if he is serious about the proposal. A spokesperson for the White House has not provided any immediate comments regarding the matter.
The press secretary position has been notably unstable; after Zacharia’s brief tenure, her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt, left in August to spend more time with family. Following these changes, Trump’s administration saw more upheaval on Friday with Chief of Staff Susie Wiles announcing her departure, leading to the naming of longtime aide Stephen Miller as her replacement.
