The Atlanta Dream demonstrated their resilience on Thursday night, battling back to secure a crucial 80-69 victory over the Golden State Valkyries in Game 6 of the WNBA Finals. This win has set the stage for a highly anticipated Game 7, which will determine the championship winner.
Allisha Gray was a standout performer, contributing 23 points, while Rhyne Howard followed closely with 21 points. The Dream’s shooting was exceptional, particularly in the first half, where they took a commanding 32-15 lead after the first quarter.
Facing elimination after losses in Games 4 and 5, the Dream found their rhythm again, as coach Karl Smesko noted. “We played with a different spacing and pace,” he said, emphasizing a return to their offensive fundamentals. The team shot impressively, hitting 6 of 8 three-pointers and maintaining an aggressive defense that stifled the Valkyries.
Despite a late surge from Golden State, which had been leading the series 3-2, the Dream’s early dominance proved too much to overcome. Angel Reese recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, adding depth to the Dream’s performance.
As the series shifts to Game 7 in Golden State, both teams will be vying for their first WNBA championship. The Valkyries, who had previously showcased strong defensive efforts in the series, will need to regroup and adjust their strategy to reclaim momentum.
With the stakes higher than ever, the showdown promises to be a thrilling conclusion to a hard-fought series.
