In a surprising turn of events, actor Nicolas Cage has revealed that he is “a little bit homeless” following a sinkhole that has swallowed part of his Malibu residence. This unusual predicament was disclosed during a panel at the Los Angeles Comic Con held over the weekend.
Addressing fans, Cage shared, “Something happened in my house in Malibu,” explaining that he is currently staying in hotels and missing out on the traditional Halloween festivities he enjoys. His comments were captured in a fan video of the event.
The sinkhole, which emerged in September, has raised significant safety concerns. Measuring between 25 and 30 feet deep and spanning approximately 30 by 60 feet, it has also resulted in a gas leak, prompting the city to shut off gas services in the area. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Visuals of the property reveal a substantial crater where the driveway once stood, although it remains unclear if the house itself has sustained damage. According to city officials, seven homes have been classified as hazardous due to the sinkhole’s effects, with an additional 24 homes marked for their compromised access.
As for repairs, the housing association managing the area indicated that work would commence soon, with completion expected within five weeks, contingent on weather conditions. However, details regarding Cage’s timeline for returning home remain sparse, and representatives for the actor have not yet commented on the situation.
The City of Malibu has issued an emergency proclamation regarding the sinkhole, but further updates on the matter have yet to be made available. As the situation unfolds, fans and residents alike are left wondering about the fate of Cage’s Malibu home.
