Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut is currently hospitalized following a stroke he suffered on Saturday. According to a statement from his chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, the senator began to feel numbness in his arm while attending his son’s hockey game.

After being taken to a local hospital, doctors confirmed that Murphy had experienced a stroke. He was subsequently transferred to Johns Hopkins for further treatment and monitoring. Herwitt reported that the senator is responding positively to treatment, is awake, and alert. Medical professionals are optimistic about his recovery.

The 53-year-old senator, who is not facing re-election this year, has been actively campaigning for Democratic candidates nationwide. He was scheduled to appear in New Hampshire today alongside Rep. Chris Pappas, the Democratic nominee for Senate.

Earlier this week, Murphy had been vocal against President Donald Trump’s policies, specifically criticizing a potential military escalation in the Middle East. He recently participated in an event for the Middle East Institute where he expressed concern over the administration’s plans.

In recent months, Murphy’s office has also been involved in investigations regarding suspicious letters received by multiple lawmakers, including himself.
